Balance was born from my love for the beach, and from my belief that swimwear should bring joy, not anxiety. After graduating from college, my work in the art world prompted a move from New York City to Kingston, Jamaica, where I fell in love with the culture, in particular the love that people had for the beach. It was in Jamaica that I made my first attempt at designing swimwear, taking my patterns to local seamstresses. After moving back to New York, I continued taking design classes at FIT (while still working a 9-5). I also became a trained meditation teacher under Dr. Joe Loizzo, specializing in Metta or Loving Kindness practice. It wasn't the traditional fashion designer's path and it wasn’t always easy but it inspired me to build what Balance is today.
